Dear Frustrated Reader With Balance and Fall Issues,
- Are you worried about your balance? Do you feel unsteady on your feet? Do you feel weak in the legs? Have you fallen before? Do you have a fear of falling?
- Are you frustrated that you’ve lost some of your strength & mobility, and now that your balance is being effected you feel vulnerable and fearful of falling?
- Are you having trouble keeping up with your friends and are missing out on fun recreational activities?
- Are you still looking for a practical solution to addressing your balance issues so you can enjoy your life independently without having to always worry about falling?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you are in the right place!
Many people like you in San Diego suffer unnecessarily with an excessive fear of falling because they’ve seen or been told that...
- Falls are the leading cause of death among the elderly
- It’s “normal” for you to feel off balance like this, “you’re getting up there in age”.
- Be Careful! My best friend just fell and now she’s in the hospital with a broken hip.
- Mom, I don’t want you doing that anymore, because “XYZ” is too dangerous and you might fall.
The Truth Is...
- Losing your balance and failing is a very real thing that is happening to a lot of us, but it’s the fear of falling that drives us away from doing the things that we’ve enjoyed in the past.
- The body’s balance systems will start to decline with age and its important to work on them balance activities, but It’s not normal to have a fear of falling.
- Once you’ve become fearful of falling the chances of you actually falling increase dramatically and you can become a victim of your own reality.
- By stopping to do the things that you enjoy because you feel that they are now risky and could lead to a fall is not the only option. Many times we help people overcome the fears of falling by instilling confidence in them and showing them that they can improve their balance.
“At Fluid Motion Physiotherapy & Wellness, We Specialize In Helping Active older adults move better and stay active, so they can feel more confident in their balance and maintain their independence.”
It can be very confusing to decide exactly what you should do if you have balance and mobility problems. You’ve likely heard a lot of options such as…
- A family member tells you that you should be working with their personal trainer.
- A colleague mentions going to Physical Therapy at the local hospital
- The “experts” on YouTube recommend doing certain exercises
- A friend suggests going to a Balance or Tai Chi class
- All while the doctor tells you to just be careful and don’t FALL.
It’s overwhelming to try to make a decision with all these choices… what will happen if you don’t make the right one?
Most people get stuck trying to make a decision about what to do next. They go days, weeks, months (even years!) without taking action.
When It Comes to Solving Something Serious Like Working on Your Balance and Preventing Falls…
We know it is important to choose the right provider for your health. If you don’t, you could end up waisting your time trying this, that, and the other. Meanwhile the balance problem is still there.
Doing the “least-invasive” or easiest treatment option doesn’t usually give you much in the way of progress or improvement.
To see long lasting improvements, you have to not just treat the symptoms (bad balance), but have a provider who is willing to figure out WHY the symptom (bad balance) appeared in the first place. Once the dots are connected, that’s when you’ll get a PERMANENT solution to your problems.
At Fluid Motion Physiotherapy we’ve created a 3 step process to get you moving again, regain your confidence in your body’s ability to maintain it’s balance so that we can decrease the fear of falling.
Step #1 - We Want to Listen to Your Story
Our medical system is frustrating. You wait weeks, sometimes months, for an appointment, only to get to talk to the doctors for 10 minutes before they have to run to the next patient and you’re left sitting there wondering, “What just happened?”
Even most physical therapy clinics operate this way. They’re not attentive, they’re fast-paced, and your therapist doesn’t have time to actually work with you, passing you off to someone else for the majority of the treatment session.
This is why our first step is to listen to your story.
After working with lots of people with balance problems, we know that no two people are alike. Each person has a different body, a different history, and different types of pain.
That is why our first step is to have an open conversation and time for you to tell your story. That way we get a deep understanding of what’s going on not just with your body, but also how it’s impacting your life.
Step #2 - Find Out How & WHY this Started
Many people have a diagnosis, or medical term for what’s going on with their body. Maybe their doctor gave it to them, maybe tests showed the diagnosis, or maybe they found it online. Be very CAREFUL with what you read online and you should always seek out the help of a medical practitioner for this sort of thing.
The important thing to remember is that DIAGNOSIS doesn’t mean PROGNOSIS. This means that just because you’ve been labeled with “XYZ” diagnosis doesn’t mean that you can’t do this or do that, or have to stop doing this, or stop doing that…
Everyone’s balance issues are different. No one has the exact same problem caused by the exact same thing as another person, but we often see familiar patterns or similarities.
Our goal at Fluid Motion Physiotherapy is to find that original cause or causes for the balance problem, and by doing so, not only does your balance improve but so does the the fear of falling because we are addressing the root cause.
We understand that you still might be skeptical or unsure if physical therapy is right for you. That’s why we created a free taster session. (Yes! That means the first session is ON US!)
Our Discovery Sessions are meant specifically for those people who are skeptical, unsure, or have even been let down in the past. During the Discovery Session you’ll find out what’s wrong, how long it’s going to take to fix it, and give you peace of mind that your problem can be fixed naturally!
Step #3 - Get Rid Of The fear of falling & Keep It From Coming Back
This is when the big transformations occur. We develop a personalized plan that allows you to…
…Get back to exercising without having the fear of falling and embarrassing yourself in front of other people.
…Be able to (play with grandkids, get back to your workouts, be able do dance with your spouse without having to worry about falling)
…Get back to walking on the beach, hiking, and riding your bike
…Have confidence that when you get up from your bed and walk to the bathroom at night that you won’t fall!
… Be able to walk the golf course again or continue to play pickelball with confidence.
Our best clients are those who are motivated and ready to win back their active lifestyle (Even if they feel stuck right now!)

What Other People Just Like You Are Saying About Fluid Motion Physiotherapy in San Diego...

Henriatta, 86, San Diego: Overcame balance issues.

Bill, 68, San Diego: Overcame back pain.
I developed lower back pain about 6 months ago for no apparent reason and had to stop playing pickle-ball and then a few weeks later had to stop golfing as well. I went to my doctor to see about x-rays or a MRI but she just sent me home with 2 different types of pain pills… The pain went away so I decided to go back to golfing, and boy was that a mistake… I couldn’t get out of the bed the next day because my back locked up on me. After 10 sessions with Fluid Motion Physiotherapy I was back playing golf twice a week and pickle-ball once a week. I’m in better shape now at 68 than I was in my 50’s and I owe a lot of it to Jeff and his team helping me everything from my rehab to my sleeping habits.
